Project Goals:

George Mason University intends to develop a building program for a new 200,000 GSF instructional building, Academic VIII. The program is to be developed concurrently and coordianted with the program development for the Bull Run Hall Addition. The intention of the joint programming effort is to identify programmatic needs at the Sci Tech Campus to holistically plan for the growth and development of that campus in support of Mason’s initiatve to transform the Sci Tech Campus into a fully functional campus to serve STEAM-H students and provide those students with the full array of academic offerings and university life experiences associated with a tradtional campus experience.

Description of Project:

This project supports the continuing expansion of STEM-H programs at Mason, and is the first of several buildings to be programmed in a new STEM-H complex on our SciTech campus in Manassas, VA. A 200,000 GSF building, Academic VIII will support students enrolled in STEM-H majors, such as but not limited to kinesiology, materials science, forensic science, bioengineering, and mechanical engineering. Academic VIII will also support post-baccalaureate and related graduate-level medical/health programs for students pursuing careers in the healthcare and wellness professions. The building will include specialized instructional labs, classrooms, experiential learning collaboratories, and faculty and administrator offices to support growing student and faculty communities on SciTech campus. With the addition of Academic VIII, and the co-development of the Innovation Town Center immediately adjacent to and contiguous with its SciTech campus, Mason will provide a residential campus experience for students enrolling in relevant STEM-H programs from freshman year through PhD. Mason’s increasingly vibrant SciTech campus will serve as a magnet to attract new and retain existing businesses in Prince William County’s Innovation Park, advancing the region’s innovation industries and driving associated economic growth.
