F&CO Earth Month Clean Up Events

This Earth Month 2026, two teams within Facilities & Campus Operations (F&CO) held cleanup events to collect trash and recyclables on the Fairfax and SciTech campuses!

On April 15, 2026, the Land Development team hosted a Stream Cleanup event where participants collected litter from the parking lots surrounding Eagle Bank Arena and Mason Pond to reduce water pollution in nearby streams. In total, volunteers collected 30 lbs. of trash and 20 lbs. of recycling within 2 hours!

On April 22, 2026, Facilities Management (FM) hosted a Campus Cleanup event. Under Erich Miller’s leadership this year, multiple FM zones and teams participated in collecting trash and recycling throughout the Fairfax and Scitech campuses. Weighed by the Waste & Recycling team, the total weights from both campuses are listed below:

Fairfax Campus:

  • 142 lbs. of trash
  • 265 lbs. recycling

SciTech Campus:

  • 75 lbs. trash

Combined, the two events resulted in the collection of over 240 pounds of trash and 285 pounds of recycling!

In addition to the Campus Cleanup, the FM Grounds team planted seven new trees on the Fairfax campus in honor of Earth Month. The new trees include dogwood, red oak, and dawn redwood. More information will soon be added to the Arboretum database.
