- Interns will need to complete an end of program presentation

Positions Available
Building Automation Systems (BAS) is interested in hiring a Student Intern for Summer 2025. The Intern will be responsible for assisting BA technicians in their daily job duties. At the end of 12 weeks, the Intern will have learned the ideas and principles of a modern BAS system and how it relates to the building mechanical systems.

- The Intern will help create, edit, and help distribute videos to the appropriate department(s) via approved channels

The major maintenance and auxiliary projects group is seeking an intern to work with project managers. Interns will gain practical knowledge in construction oversight and administration by:
- Learning to use the construction project management software, eBuilder.
- Developing scopes of work for architectural and engineering services.
- Reviewing drawings for scope and constructability.
- Understanding Mason’s permitting process.
- Experiencing the bidding process and on-site construction projects.
- Interns will interact with various project teams, monitor construction progress, attend meetings, generate minutes, and manage permit submissions, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and punch lists. They will also assist in planning for building move-in and occupancy.
Facilities Management is interested in hiring a Student Intern for Summer 2025.
Working with the leadership team of Facilities Management, the intern will analyze campus operations, develop measurements, and create reports with the goal of improving processes and effectiveness.
George Mason Waste/Recycle is interested in hiring a Student Intern for Summer 2025. The tasks will include data entry from invoices into Energy Cap from various vendors that the University works with.
The Facilities and Campus Design department is seeking a Student Intern to assist with designing and implementing signage and graphics across the university. Preferred candidates are from the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site surveys of existing conditions.
- Assist in creating sign location plans and message schedules.
- Help design signage and maintain inventory.
- Support construction administration of signage projects.
- Attend meetings and collaborate with end-users, Facilities teams, and vendors.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with 3D software (Sketchup, Rhino, etc.) and CAD tools.
- Skills in visualization, reading construction drawings, and understanding sign materials.
- A strong desire to learn about signage and graphics program development and maintenance.
The Facilities HR department seeks one intern to gain hands-on experience aligned with the Society of Human Resource Management's Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (BASK). The internship focuses on Talent Acquisition and Learning & Development, with an emphasis on people and organization knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the HR team on recruitment activities, including community outreach and apprenticeship program updates.
- Assist in refining the interview process by shadowing current interns and meeting with hiring managers.
- Help develop training modules for supervisors and employees.
- Organize the 2025 facilities internship program, including scheduling and enrichment activities.
- Recommend HR engagement events and create a quarterly event calendar.
- Spanish/English bilingual preferred
The ideal candidate is a business major with an interest in HR, mentored by the HR director, and concludes the internship with a capstone presentation on applied knowledge.
Land Development interns will spend time in the office and out in the field assessing conditions of Mason's storm water system. They will use specialized equipment to collect data and identify maintenance and/or repair needs
Key responsibilities include:
- Storm Pipes Assessments: Use a robot to video pipes for maintenance needs and assist with work order documentation.
- Drainage Marking Replacement: Update labels on storm drains to promote Chesapeake Bay protection and maintain labeling inventory.
- Stormwater System Assessment: Inspect drainage inlets and manholes, confirming locations on GIS maps and identifying maintenance needs.
- Pond Bathymetry: Use a sonar surfboard to collect pond elevation data and assist in creating topographic maps and evaluating sedimentation.
The Patriot Packout (PPO) is George Mason University’s sustainable move-out initiative that collects donated items to address basic needs and reduce waste. Interns will support the planning and execution of PPO alongside the University Sustainability team and PPO Planning Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
- PPO Implementation Support:
- Lead volunteer shifts for donation collection and redistribution
- Organize and transport donations to storage.
- Assist in donation events and track collected data.
- PPO Planning Committee Support:
- Attend meetings and provide feedback for initiative planning.
- Collaborate on developing planning materials, logistics, and volunteer schedules.
- Handle administrative tasks and maintain Committee records.
Interns will gain hands-on experience in community engagement and sustainability initiatives.
