Mason Facilities is seeking interns to become part of our in-person, hands-on program. Interns will gain meaningful and applicable real work experiences through targeted projects.
Program Details
- 12 week program: May 20 - Aug 9, 2024
- 30 Hours a week: a weekly schedule will be set by intern supervisors
- $16/hour: paid biweekly
Main Requirements
- Degree seeking, rising sophomores through rising seniors
- Interns will need to complete an end of program presentation
- Interns will participate in program activities, lectures, and outings
- Application deadline: March 1, 2024 (except for HR position - deadline is March 15, 2024)
Positions Available
The ideal candidate is a business major who has a level of interest in the HR profession and has taken or plans to take business management courses in human resources or organizational behavior. The HR Intern will be mentored by the HR director and work closely with the facilities HR team on projects. Spanish/English bilingual preferred. Deadline March 15, 2024.
Interns will work along side project managers on larger projects and will take the lead to execute smaller projects gaining valuable “practical” knowledge of construction oversight and administration. As part of that work, they will:
- Interact with the project teams, including the users/clients/unit representatives of the space, the A/E team, the contractors, as well as the institutional organizations such as interior design, graphic design, information technology, access control and environmental health & safety.
- Develop an understanding of the schedule and sequence of work on the construction project
- Monitor construction progress and track project milestones
- Attend progress meetings and generate minutes
- Review and update the stakeholders on project progress
- Manage permit submissions, submittals, RFI’s, change orders, and punch-lists
- Working with the project team, assist user(s) in developing a plan for building move-in and occupancy
This internship will allow students to gain hands-on experience with our Fuse at Mason Square Program Management Team. Our interns will work directly with Cathy Pinskey and Mirwais Safi on the project team to build professional skills in project management and inspection and to build networks with other team members to include Edgemoor Infrastructure and Real Estate and Clark Construction Management.
Mason Facilities Communications & Marketing interns will support the all Facilities teams (including University Sustainability) by creating and posting collateral, i.e. social media content, videos, flyers, and other promotional items. Take a look at some examples of things you'll be creating!
Land Development interns will spend time in the office and out in the field assessing conditions of Mason's storm water system. They will use specialized equipment to collect data and identify maintenance and/or repair needs. Students will gain create a map of the topographic elevations of the Mason pond and will assist in the volume computation, comparison with historic data and evaluate sedimentation accumulation in the bottom of the pond.
