Mason Facilities & Campus Operations (F&CO) is seeking interns to become part of our in-person, hands-on program. Interns will gain meaningful and applicable real work experiences through targeted projects.
Program Details
- 12 week program: May 18 - Aug 7, 2026
- 30 Hours a week: a weekly schedule will be set by intern supervisors
- $17/hour: paid biweekly
Main Requirements
- Degree seeking, rising sophomores through rising seniors
- Interns will need to complete an end of program presentation
- Interns will participate in program activities, lectures, and outings
- Application deadline: February 27, 2026 (rolling interviews/acceptance)
Students that require internship credits, must work with their schools and advisors to finalize the paperwork.
2026 Positions
The Asset Management team is offering a summer internship focused on Construction Project Management and the Facilities Condition Assessment Program (FCAP). Interns will gain hands-on experience with project management software, permitting processes, and construction site activities. They will collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to oversee both large and small-scale projects. Responsibilities include tracking progress, managing documentation, and assisting with building occupancy planning. Additionally, interns will support the FCAP team by inventorying assets and learning about building condition assessments and maintenance planning.

Building Automation Systems (BAS) is interested in hiring a Student Intern for Summer 2026. The Intern will be responsible for assisting BA technicians in their daily job duties. At the end of 12 weeks, the Intern will have learned the ideas and principles of a modern BAS system and how it relates to the building mechanical systems.

This internship offers hands-on experience in energy data analysis and building performance evaluation using Siemens Navigator and Desigo CC systems. Interns will learn to identify data errors, set up utility dashboards, and generate reports for faculty and staff. They will participate in building walk-throughs and plant visits to observe HVAC, lighting, and occupancy patterns. The role includes reviewing past energy reports and conducting simple lighting audits to identify low-cost energy conservation measures. Interns will also compare performance across campus buildings and assist in documenting findings for energy efficiency improvements.

The F&CO HR department seeks one intern to gain hands-on experience aligned with the Society of Human Resource Management's Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (BASK). The internship focuses on Talent Acquisition and Learning & Development, with an emphasis on people and organization knowledge.

- Collaborate with the HR team on recruitment activities, including community outreach and apprenticeship program updates.

Land Development interns will spend time in the office and out in the field assessing conditions of Mason's storm water system. They will use specialized equipment to collect data and identify maintenance and/or repair needs

- Drainage Marking Replacement: Update labels on storm drains to promote Chesapeake Bay protection and maintain labeling inventory.
- Stormwater System Assessment: Inspect drainage inlets and manholes, confirming locations on GIS maps and identifying maintenance needs.
- Pond Bathymetry: Use a sonar surfboard to collect pond elevation data and assist in creating topographic maps and evaluating sedimentation.
The Auxiliary Team in Planning, Design, and Construction is seeking a summer intern to gain hands-on experience in construction project management and capital planning. Interns will learn to use project management tools like Trimble Unity Connect, SharePoint, and Teams to organize tasks and track progress. They will assist in developing scopes of work, reviewing design drawings, and participating in field visits to active construction sites. The role includes supporting permit processes, attending progress meetings, and managing project documentation. Interns will also collaborate with various stakeholders and help plan building occupancy for completed projects.
The Education & General Team in Planning, Design, and Construction is seeking a summer intern to gain experience in construction project management and capital planning. Interns will work on small to medium-sized design and construction projects, and may assist with capital projects in the planning phase. They will learn to use project management tools like Trimble Unity Connect, develop scopes of work, review drawings, and participate in field visits. The role includes supporting permit processes, tracking project milestones, and managing documentation such as RFIs and change orders. Interns will collaborate with various stakeholders and help plan building occupancy for completed projects.
The Event Management Intern will support events at Mason’s SciTech Campus in Manassas and the Potomac Science Center in Woodbridge. Interns will gain hands-on experience in event planning, venue management, and basic audio-visual support while working with professional staff. Responsibilities include assisting with event coordination, conducting venue tours, responding to client inquiries, and managing event logistics through platforms like 25Live and Wrike. The Greenhouse and Gardens Internship offers hands-on experience growing fruits and vegetables on campus through hydroponic systems and outdoor gardens. The Patriot Packout (PPO) is George Mason University’s sustainable move-out initiative that collects donated items to address basic needs and reduce waste. Interns will support the planning and execution of PPO alongside the University Sustainability team and PPO Planning Committee.
