George Mason University is hosting a two-day planning workshop on March 8th and 9th, 2017, to explore various short and long term visions for the Arlington Campus and its connections to Arlington County and the region. George Mason University students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well county staff, residents, and businesses, are invited to attend any or all of the scheduled sessions during the two-day workshop. The workshop, facilitated by HDR will look at several aspects of planning, including visibility and branding, transportation, facility needs and design issues, partnership models for funding, academic priorities, economic development, and housing. This type of public input-based planning process previously used at the Fairfax Campus of George Mason University can be a successful way to ensure that multiple viewpoints are heard in planning for the university’s future.
The kinds of overarching questions that will discussed during the workshop are:

1. What is your vision of success for the Arlington Campus? What transformations are needed to achieve that vision?
2. What investments are needed to make the Arlington Campus a center for leadership development?
3. What partnerships are critical to the future success of the Arlington Campus?

Employee of the Month

Jose Alberto Escobar
Paint/Sign Shop Facilities Management

I would like to nominate Jose Alberto Escobar for the Facilities Employee of the Month for January 2017. Jose has been working for the Paint/Shop for more than 8 years and during that time he has proven himself to be one or my top employees. He demonstrates his knowledge, skills and ability every day in how he approaches his work assignments. Jose is very meticulous in all areas of his work. He is extremely thorough, neat, and timely. I have received positive comments from his customers for the work he completes.

The last two months he has been painting and upgrading the exterior signs in Science and Technology (PW Campus) and Fairfax Campus with excellent results. I always ask him if he need assistance with his assignments and he tells me that is not necessary, he can do it by himself. I know if I give him a job it will be done correctly and on time. He goes about his work without complaining. He is extremely focused and professional. He always displays a positive attitude, takes pride in his work, and always strives to make the customer happy with the service provided.

He is good example for the Paint Shop and for Facilities in general. It is for all these reasons that I am excited to nominate Jose for employee of the month.
