Storm Water Master Plan
The University has three separate Northern Virginia campuses in Arlington, Fairfax, and Prince William,
which are located, in the Potomac watershed within the larger Chesapeake Bay drainage shed. Arlington
Campus is approximately 5 acres comprised of several academic buildings in an urban setting and drains
to Spout Run. Fairfax Campus consists of approximately 585 acres of developed and undeveloped land,
comprised of academic buildings, research facilities, residential buildings, auxiliary buildings, and athletic
facilities. About 220 acres drains to Popes Head Creek. The remaining 365 acres drains to Pohick Creek.
Currently, over 33,000 students attend George Mason University with approximately 5,500 living on the
main campus in Fairfax.
