The Facilities Management primary mission is to provide an acceptable physical environment in which the University's standards of excellence can be accomplished. To achieve this mission, the department operates, cleans, maintains, repairs, replaces, renews, and secures all buildings, grounds, utilities, and other infrastructure assigned to George Mason University.

Employee of the Month
For November 2009

Terri Russell
Buyer, Facilities Purchasing

Terri has performed extremely well in all areas of her position. There are several areas where Terri stands out; her efforts to introduce and manage the technician Pcard program which has now been adopted for all Facilities Pcard users. Her recommendations to move to filemaker and the creation of several electronic logs were innovative ideas that have helped reduce administrative time and resources streamlining the purchase process further. Even her suggestion to rearrange our office to help create a more conducive working environment has been very effective.

This month stands out however as an excellent example of Terri's initiative and contribution to my team and to Facilities. She suggested that to help facilities staff understand the changes that were being implemented rather than just tell them what to do that we hold a workshop. Her idea was to show everyone why they were being asked to undertake these changes as well as explain how to do them. After brainstorming ideas Terri then created the powerpoint presentation, worked out the schedule and order of the workshop and worked very hard to ensure that all possible scenarios would be addressed and all questions would be answered. The training was very successful and i feel Terri was largely responsible for its success.

Terri's contributions to the department and the university are greatly valued. Her initiative, enthusiasm and work ethic are truly an asset to the Facilities Management department and to the university community at large. Terri is well deserving of the title of Employee of the Month.
